About This Watch

Pre-owned. Comes with orig. special edition box+outer box & dated paper in pouch. One owner's watch in splendid condition & last serviced by agent in 2010 for about S$1000. This Franck Muller Kris is a one-off special edition with just 28 numbered pieces made for the S.E. Asian market. The dial has an image of the Kris replacing the no.12 & the word Kris printed below the centre column.

The Kris is an ancient dagger with a distinctive wavy blade dagger and more commonly associated with the Javanese culture. It was often used in self-defence or ceremonies while some are passed down as heirlooms and saw widespread use during the Majapahit Empire between the 13 to 16th centuries.

The watch is finished in matt steel with resemblance to pewter products.

Trivia: The Majapahit Empire prospered as a result of an invasion by the Mongol Empire ruled by Kublai Khan. In 1293, 20,000-30,000 soldiers were assembled from Southern China & set forth in 1000 ships lead by 3 generals, a Mongol, Uyghur & a Chinese to attack the Singhasari kingdom of Java who refused to be a vassal to the Emperor of Yuan.

After an initial success, the triumphant Yuan army was ambushed by their ally Raden Wijaya, son-in-law to the King of the disposed Singhasari kingdom and the Mongols hastily retreated to the sea with a loss of 3000 elite soldiers. This defeat was the last expedition under Kublai Khan's reign while Majapahit rose to become the most powerful state in the region.

In 1405-1443, during Ming dynasty's Zheng He expedition, his translator Ma Huan noted that "all men in Majapahit, from the King to commoners, from a boy aged three to elders, slipped pu-la-t'ou (belati or more precisely kris dagger) in their belts."
