About This Watch

Pre-owned. Comes with orig. wooden box with matching numbered metal plaque (+ outer box), manual & undated paper. This IWC Portuguese Wempe Chronometerwerke Regulator is fitted with an in-house manufacture movement and housed in a 43mm steel case with exhibition back. The Ref.5443-01 is a very rare watch and highly collectible now as we rarely see them appear in the international market so buy this while it lasts.

This example is a one owner's watch in mint condition & needs nothing. The original strap has only been lightly used and still presents very well today.

This Regulator was specially conceived for the German retailer Wempe that was founded in 1878. In Oct 2005, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Wempe Chronometerwerke only 100pcs of this IWC in Steel were ever made. The dial is signed with the retailer's name, case band is engraved with their logo and the serial number 15/100.

When this was introduced, it was a unique model as a regulator wristwatch has never been found in IWC history and the massive shape with timeless layout was inspired by German regulator clocks. It would take a few years for the regulator to be introduced as a regular production model in the IWC collection and that has also been discontinued by now so total production of this watch is very limited.

This was only sold through the Wempe stores located in Europe & US. None were available officially in Asia back then.

The old retail price of a regular production model (not this limited edition Wempe) was S$17500 & these steel Wempe edition were traded for well over S$22000 in it's heydays.

Watch was last serviced by IWC in Aug 2009 with receipt.
