About This Watch

Classic. Comes with orig. Patek box and archive certificate with a new customed croc leather & orig. 18KYG buckle.

We acquired this masterpiece from the single owner who purchased this watch from new and according to the factory issued archive certificate, this watch was manufactured in 1981 and sold on 17 December 1981. This watch has been inspected by the Patek Philippe service center in Singapore.

The movement received a complete overhaul in Oct 2019 by our in-house master watchmaker and the solid yellow gold case is just lightly polished so faint, old marks will be visible under magnification but nothing major. The movement winds smoothly and keeps time and this watch is not water resistant so beware of this.

Patek Philippe produced what are recognized as some of the finest skeleton watches ever made during the 1980s and early 1990s. Each timepiece was meticulously hand-engraved in gold leaving a delicate, thin, and mesmerizing combination of miniscule bridges and wheels. Automatic versions such as the Ref. 3878 used the Caliber 240 (2.4 mm thick) while the manual versions, including the Refs. 3880, 3883, and 3886, included the Caliber 177 (1.77 mm thick). One can only admire and wonder how the engraver signed the movement with the words 'Patek Philippe Geneva' and a seven digit movement number on a bridge less than 2 mm wide.

Patek Philippe discontinued these types of skeletonized watches in the 1990s and reintroduced them in 2008 and the present reference still retains popularity among collector's circles today.

Today, these classic skeleton Pateks fetch high prices with auction houses and they don't appear often so this is a rare opportunity for you to acquire a dream watch at a very reasonable price.
