About This Watch
Vintage. Comes with a Patek lacquered wooden box set and archive of certificate by the factory but no paper nor further accessories.
Towards the end of 20th century, the Stern family decided to bring their 12 workshops scattered around the area under one roof and a new factory was erected in Place des Outes on the outskirts of Geneva. To celebrate this momentous progress after more than 160years, this Patek Philippe Ref.5500J was launched in 1997 to celebrate the momentous opening. The watch was inspired by an original Ref.2441 Eiffel tower from 1940s and named the Pagoda.
A total of just 2000pcs were produced with 150 in platinum and black dial, 250 in white gold and salmon pink dial, 500 in pink gold and silver dial, and 1100 in yellow gold which is what we have here. The complex architectural case required 171 separate operations to machine and they were not numbered. After completion, the moulds were destroyed to ensure that no further pieces could be produced again. This was the defining model for the modern day Patek Philippe limited edition watches as collectors around the world quickly snapped up this Pagoda.
The 18ct yellow gold curved case has been lightly polished before to factory specs and movement serviced recently. The manual winding movement was finished to Geneva seal standards and underwent rigorous testings for 15 days by COSC to be chronometer certified. Very few Patek watches received COSC chronometer certification and this is one of them.
It takes about 20 winds to full power reserve.
The curved top rectangular case with down-turned lugs make the watch wrap around any wrist sizes comfortably. This watch is sold with it's original 18ct gold buckle and a Camille Fournet alligator strap, (the maker for Patek straps) was ordered for it, it is a little short and will only fit a maximum 17cm wrist size but you may always replace this. It is sold with a gorgeous wooden box set and the original cert has been misplaced over the years. An archive certificate will be ordered from the factory and given when issued.
With a basic Calatrava costing nearly S$50K these days and there are very few rectangular watches by the Patek Philippe, this limited edition Pagoda will surely be a hallmark in any collection for a very decent price. One specimen in full set will set you back nearly S$40K so this is very reasonably priced.
Further 3% discount for non-credit cards payment.
