About This Watch

Pre-owned. Comes with orig. boxes but no papers.

This is a timeless elegant watch that transcends time. First conceived by Louis Cartier in 1904 for his aviator friend and named after him, the Santos Dumont has remained largely unchanged & this particular lady's version is very rare. Presented in solid yellow gold with an ultra-thin manual winding movement measuring a mere 5mm thin including glass. This watch is in superb condition and accompanied by it's original precious solid gold buckle.

It has a classic white enamel painted dial with black Roman numerals, railway track minute divisions and the Cartier secret signature can be found on X, proving it's authenticity.

The Santos is an important model in Cartier history similar to the Calatrava of Patek Philippe & Oyster for Rolex.

Louis Cartier designed the original Santos watch for his friend: Alberto S. Dumont in 1904 & it has been in production since then. Alberto Santos-Dumont was a Brazilian aviator pioneer who lived in Paris & made several flying achievements using airships & planes. He was a friend of Louis Cartier (Founder of Cartier) who made the Santos watch for him. This was the first commercially available wristwatch.

Little has changed on the original watch since from what you see here. It takes about 19 rounds on the crown for a full wind which brings us to find out more about her movement. It is a very high quality Frederic Piguet ultra-thin movement Calibre 21 measuring a mere 1.73mm & in production since 1925. This is the movement that was developed by Patek Philippe for their Cal.177.

A collectible timepiece in solid gold that's easy on the wallet.
