About This Watch

Pre-owned. No box/papers.

This is a rare & collectible Cartier, Pasha de Cartier from the late 1990s and was the only sports watch from Cartier in those years with a 100m water resistant rating. It features a calibrated and rotating steel bezel for Scuba diving while a canteen-style screw-lock crown cap with a blue-sapphire cabochon secures the crown from moisture and dust. The dial is laid in ivory colour featuring the iconic eccentric Roman numerals around a square grid with blued steel lance style hands. This premium model would be replaced by the Pasha 38 which shares the exact bracelet, followed by the Pasha 40 Sea-timer. The common Pasha C with a smaller 35.5mm case and simpler design is a lower model.

Watch was polished and in splendid condition throughout. A collector's item not to be missed and rarely appears in the market.

The Pasha is one of the first sports model by Cartier & legend has it that his excellency El Haj T’hami el Mezouari el Glaoui, Pasha of Marrakech wanted a watch to see time when he swims & being a well connected person with the French high society, he commissioned Louis Cartier for one such watch in the 1930s but it was not until 1943 when a prototype was shown to the public. It was made in 18 carat gold with a grille to protect the glass & like the military watches during the war, it had a "canteen crown" that screws lock onto the case to withstand moisture & dust, the size was a generous 41mm, huge in those days. The movement was a manual winding Calibre 437 developed in 1939 & supplied by Jaeger leCoultre. The Pasha was again revived in 1985 & introduced to the public as a permanent collection & has since been on the wrist of many celebrities & important clients of Cartier.
