Water Resistance for Watches

Below are a list of water resistance definitions and its recommended usage. The ability of a watch to stay water resistant will change as it ages. This is because the seals which prevent water from entering the watch will weaken and age with time. For frequent usage, the seals should be changed every 2 to 3 years.

Please also note that water resistance rating in watches is based on laboratory pressure performance measured where the watch is at a fixed position. In real life, diving involves a lot of movement and other external environmental factors such as speed of dive, heat, etc which will alter the watch’s water resistance capability.
