Vintage. No box/papers. This handsome Universal has an nice bulbous look as it has a polished & chamfered flat bezel with a convex grey dial which magnifies the effect. The dial appears to be a professional restoration & in perfect order with no blemishes, marks or discolour. The movement is in superb condition for it's age & shines. Case has been polished with no dents or major scratches & no major corrosion to the screw thread. This is an early automatic movement with the "bumper" style rotor by this company which is known to make their own movements & the famous complications such as Tri-complex etc.

The case has been polished & is 99% like new with no dents & very little corrosion.

The Calibre 138 was launched by Universal in 1948 first with a subsidiary seconds then with the sweep centre seconds that you see here & given the code name 138SS. The rotor oscillates with a centre axle within an arc & has two springs acting as shock absorbers to bounce it back & forth so it does not rotate a full 360 degrees. It winds the mainspring in a single direction. The balance wheel is protected by Incabloc shock-system. Movement is rodium plated & is anti-magnetic. Production of this movement lasted for only about one year & was replaced by the famous micro-rotor movement.
